Our student council is a small but dedicated group of about twenty committed students who advocate for your interests. The student council carries out a wide range of tasks to represent students at the Wine Campus Neustadt: field trips, lectures, support, and socializing are, of course, also a big part of what we do. Wine Campus Talk
A format created by students for students
Wine Campus Talk is a format we initiated, where we take full control of the dialogue with industry professionals. We reach out to people in the industry whom we’d like to talk to and who are willing to engage with us in a constructive and open discussion about current issues facing winemakers. Of course, there are also exciting wines to taste! Wine Campus Talk has established itself as a successful event series that we’re eager to continue. This is the only way we can learn what to expect later in the professional world while simultaneously broadening the horizons of business leaders through the perspectives of young people.
Here’s an example from the first Wine Campus Talk: The two guests couldn’t have been a better match! While Nicola Libelli offered amusing insights into his winemaking methods with his Italian flair and vivid language, Georg Fußer proved to be a congenial foil. “It’s all about precision, like a dart,” said Nicola Libelli, describing his method for determining the right time for the harvest. As the head winemaker at the Dr. Bürklin-Wolf winery, he’s glad to have so many opportunities to put his ideas into practice. Despite climate change, he recognizes the resilience of Riesling and continues to see its future in this variety.
Georg Fußer focuses on “wines with an inner calm.” “When my first Riesling began the BSA process, I was already breaking a sweat; today, I let all Rieslings take their natural course and am happy about this development,” he admitted with a slight smile. For him, gut feeling is the main factor in deciding how and when to make changes. After all, there’s simply no recipe for winemaking! After this kickoff, one thing is clear: the proof is in the tasting! With that in mind, more events are already in the works—stay tuned!
