Smart data from logistics chains in viticulture

Background and project objective

The optimization of logistics chains has revolutionized parts of the economy and led to completely new business models. In agricultural value creation systems, optimization also ensures the quality of the products. Logistics optimization also makes a significant contribution to the urgently needed increase in economic efficiency and sustainability. The project evaluates practice-based digital ("smart data") solutions in order to demonstrate and test the optimization potential of smart solutions for the wine industry - from simulation models to virtual winery components.

For example, during the time-critical harvest, travel times for harvesting machines, harvesting assistants and the transportation of grapes need to be taken into account, as do the dependent processes involved in receiving and processing the grapes. The surveys are being tested at several wineries and cooperatives. The demonstration farms act as "showcases" and blueprints for the industry.
