Background and Project Objective
The optimization of logistics chains has revolutionized certain sectors of the economy and led to entirely new business models. In agricultural value chains, optimization also ensures product quality. Logistics optimization also makes a significant contribution to the urgently needed improvement in economic efficiency and sustainability. The project conducts a practice-based evaluation of digital (“smart data”) solutions to identify and test the optimization potential of smart approaches for the wine industry—ranging from simulation models to virtual winery components.
For example, during the time-critical harvest, travel times for harvesters, harvest workers, and grape transport must be taken into account, as must the dependent processes involved in grape reception and processing. The surveys are being tested at several wineries and cooperatives. The demonstration sites serve as “showcases” and blueprints for the industry.
