Master's degree program in Viticulture and Enology sponsored by the Franco-German university

From the winter semester 2021/2022, the Franco-German Master's degree program in Viticulture and Enology at the Wine Campus Neustadt will be funded by the Franco-German University. Students receive a mobility allowance of €300/month during their stay at the partner university Université de Haute-Alsace in Colmar.

The Franco-German University (DFH), based in Saarbrücken, pursues the goal of promoting Franco-German study programs in various disciplines. It is an institution founded jointly by Germany and France in 1997.

The Franco-German Master's degree course in Viticulture and Enology was assessed by the Franco-German University following a strict evaluation procedure. Independent German and French experts and the DFH Scientific Advisory Board are involved in this process. The innovative nature of the course, its focus on future topics in the wine industry and its dual nature with the three planned practical phases in Germany, France and Switzerland were decisive for the excellent evaluation result.

"The funding from the DFH is an important proof of quality for our binational degree programme and shows its high relevance for the wine industry, which is characterized by numerous challenges such as climate change, digitalization and internationalization. We are delighted to be able to offer our students excellent study conditions thanks to the DFH mobility grant, as well as excellent career prospects on the international job market with a Franco-German double degree," explains Prof. Dr. Maren Scharfenberger-Schmeer, head of the course.

The DFH funding includes financial support for the degree program and a monthly mobility allowance of €300 for each student during their stay in the partner country. The funding ensures that graduates are excellently trained, multilingual, interculturally competent and well equipped for the international job market.

"The financial support from the DFH is a great recognition for our university. We are delighted to be part of the extensive network of the Franco-German university and thus to be able to contribute to strengthening cooperation between Germany and France in the higher education sector," explains Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra, President of the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society, which founded the Wine Campus Neustadt together with the Rural Area Service Center (DLR) Rhenish Palatinate, the Bingen Technical University of Applied Sciences and the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences.

DFH degree courses are currently offered by a network of 208 universities, universities of applied sciences and grandes écoles in more than 130 cities in Germany, France and third countries. Around 6400 students and 300 doctoral candidates take part in the collaborations supported by the DFH.

About the Master's program

The Franco-German Master's degree program in Viticulture and Enology was launched in September 2020 as a cross-border program. The aim is to train the future generation of European wine experts for the wine industry, wine research and the tasks of professional education and administration. The course is divided into four semesters and three practical phases, which are completed in wineries. There are two internships and one semester abroad.

Language courses are held at the start of the course and in the first two semesters to prepare students for their studies at the partner university. This enables prospective students with a poor knowledge of French or German to start their studies.

The Master's degree program in Viticulture and Enology is aimed at national and international Bachelor's graduates  in viticulture and Enology as well as in agricultural, natural and engineering sciences.
