IVAS 2022 - International Conference on Wine Research to be held in Germany for the first time

In Vino Analytica Scientia 2022 -
From July 3 to 7, 2022, 242 wine scientists from 23 nations met in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.

"We are proud that we have succeeded in bringing the 2022 conference to Neustadt. The event is a milestone in the development of our location," says Prof. Dr. Dominik Durner, Head of Viticulture & Enology at the Wine Campus Neustadt. He is part of the ten-member organizing committee of IVAS 2022, which was supplemented by scientific partners from the University of Bonn, the University of Braunschweig and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.

Over the five days of the event, the experts discussed new observations and innovations in the fields of wine chemistry, wine aroma analysis, wine sensory analysis, wine authenticity and artificial intelligence. A total of 90 lectures and 150 poster presentations took place in the Saalbau.

The world as a guest in Neustadt

In addition to the specialist program, the conference participants also got to know German viticulture. On July 6, 2022, excursions took place to wineries in the Palatinate, wine research institutions and cellar technology providers. The conference concluded with a gala dinner at Hambach Castle, the cradle of German democracy. Neustadt is the twelfth venue in a row with Bordeaux (France/2019), Salamanca (Spain/2017) and Mezzocorona (Italy/2015).

In Neustadt, there was also a supporting program for trade visitors around the conference. In addition to a wine bar on the market square, a night watchman tour was offered in the old town. In addition, 17 restaurants in the city center opened their doors to conference participants on the conference days on Monday and Tuesday. Neustadt, the Palatinate and the whole of wine Germany became a little better known internationally thanks to "In Vino Analytica Scientia", summarizes Prof. Durner. New findings from all over the world, which will help to find answers to the pressing questions of our time, were presented and debated in the Saalbau. With the new findings in the bag, it is now time to put them into practice.

A team of doctoral candidates, students and employees from the Wine Campus Neustadt and the Rural Area Service Center (DLR) Rheinish Palatinate supported the conference. "The participants were impressed by how friendly, professional and committed the helpers were. The joy and team spirit were palpable and many participants were full of praise for the young helpers," reports Prof. Durner.

After Neustadt, the University of California at Davis will host IVAS 2024.
