How and when can I apply?

You can apply for the dual study program (prosemester) all year round. The Viticulture & Enology degree program is admission-free. This means that prospective students will always be offered a spot if they meet the formal requirements for the course (university entrance qualification, language skills, etc.) and apply in the correct form and by the deadline. The Viticulture & Enology degree program starts at the beginning of August.

The application deadline for the current year is July 15!

Please note! Enrolment at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society (HWG LU) for the first semester does not take place until the following year in the period from May 15 to July 15.

General Admission requirements

Admission requirements for studying at the Wine Campus are a certificate of higher education entrance qualification, entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or previous training recognized as equivalent (e.g. master winemaker, viticulture technician). There is no Numerus Clausus .

If your Abitur certificate is not yet available, you can enclose the last (half-year) certificate of your school education with your application in order to obtain provisional admission for the prosemester. The final certificate must be submitted after receipt.

Winemaker training contract

In a dual degree program, vocational training is closely integrated with academic studies. Practical training periods at the training company alternate with periods on the Wine Campus. Therefore, it is not possible to pursue a dual degree program without an apprenticeship contract with a winery. So you should start looking for an apprenticeship position well in advance. If you haven’t yet found a winery for your apprenticeship, you can explore our database of more than 400 training partners on the Apprenticeship Finder. There, you can also register as a candidate, making it easier for wineries to find you.

If you’ve already completed a viticulture apprenticeship, you can also apply directly for the bachelor’s program in Viticulture & Enology.

Approval of the training contract

The training company sends the originals of the training contract to the responsible authority for approval, depending on the federal state, e.g. the Chamber of Agriculture or the regional council. IMPORTANT! After signing, please make a copy and have it handed over, as this copy is part of the application documents.

Application to the Wine Campus

The application materials include:

A completed and signed online application form
A copy of the winemaker apprenticeship contract (signed by both parties)
Resume (in table format, chronological, complete, and please INCLUDE a signature)
Certificate of eligibility for university admission
For applicants without a high school diploma: Proof of prior education (vocational school and exam certificates)
If you have previously attended college: Certificate of good standing, certificate of withdrawal, and transcript
If applicable, proof of prior training or internships
If applicable, proof of military service, federal volunteer service, or similar

Here’s how it works:

First, fill out our online application form and email it to us. After submitting your online application, you’ll receive a PDF of your completed form via email.
Print out the PDF and sign it.
Send it along with the rest of your application documents via email to: weincampus@hwg-lu.de

All application documents must be received by our registrar's office at the Wine Campus Neustadtno later than July 15 of the year in which you plan to begin your training.

Have you found a training company?

If the training facility you’ve selected is not yet one of our partner facilities, we’d be happy to add it to our network, provided it is a recognized training facility for winemakers. Partner facilities can be located in any wine-growing region in Germany. You can find a template for a partnership agreement in the download section.

Admission requirements

For applicants with foreign (European and non-EU) high school and college transcripts, additional requirements apply in addition to the general admission requirements.

The following documents must be submitted with the application:

Proof of German language proficiency
Proof of previous studies in Germany (if you were enrolled at another college or university): Certificate of Enrollment / Transcripts / Certificate of Good Standing
Resume in German
Copy of your residence permit and the supplementary sheet, or a provisional residence permit
Copy of your passport
Printed and signed application form for the dual degree program in Viticulture & Enology

IMPORTANT! All documents from your home country must be submitted as certified copies of the originals and accompanied by a certified translation into a common European language (English, French, Spanish, or German). Copies of certified documents will not be accepted!

You should also be aware of the visa requirements for student visas in your home country. Contact the German consulate.

You must present a valid student visa no later than the time of enrollment. Enrollment is not possible without a valid student visa!

School and university certificates

University entrance qualification from the country of origin with lists of grades (Baccalauréat, Matura, high school diploma, secondary school certificate, etc.): The International Affairs department will check whether the university entrance qualification also entitles the applicant to study at our university.
Applicants from China, Mongolia and Vietnam must have their certificates checked by the Academic Evaluation Center in Beijing, Ulan Bator or Hanoi; the original certificate from the Evaluation Center must be enclosed with the application.
