New "Mobility-on-demand" stop at the Wine Campus
Since January 1, 2022, students at the Wine Campus Neustadt have had even better access to Neustadt and the Wine Route. The “Mobility-on-Demand” service is an innovative ride-sharing service “Made in Neustadt” that allows users to get around the entire city and all its neighborhoods in an eco-friendly, affordable, and flexible way.
The Neustadt-based startup “Mobility-on-demand” has set out to rethink mobility in rural areas. Since April 2021, the company has been supplementing public transportation. Unlike buses, however, the vehicles in its fleet only operate when requested. There are no fixed routes; the electric vehicles operate within a very dense network of stops (MoDstops). One such MoDStop was set up in January at the bus stop on the grounds of the Rural Area Service Center (DLR) Rhenish Palatinate. There are a total of 14 stops in Mussbach.
The Mobility-on-Demand concept has high levels of sustainability and environmental friendliness. Only electric vehicles are used, which are charged with electricity from 100% renewable energy sources. In addition, whenever possible, passengers share the ride with others traveling a similar route. This reduces traffic without sacrificing flexibility.
To use Mobility-on-Demand, you must register via the MoD app. The MoD app can be downloaded from the App Store (Apple) or the Play Store (Google).
The cost of a ride with the Mobility-on-Demand service is cheaper than a taxi ride. You can save even more money with a VRN ticket:
- Price per trip = base fare (€2.00) plus per kilometer (€0.55)
- With a valid VRN ticket, you save €1.40 plus €0.25 per kilometer
- Example: MoDstop “Schütt” to “Haardter Schloss” = €3.82 standard fare, €1.92 with a VRN ticket. Without a VRN ticket, but with a BahnCard: €3.35 (25% of the above discount = €0.47).
- Fares are calculated per air kilometer after the first kilometer, rounded to the nearest 100 meters.
